Feeding Your Basset Hound

 Depending on the age. current weight and activity level you will need to modify your

dog’s diet. The following are recommendations for adult dogs only.

 Interestingly, in the 1970s, Golden Retrievers' average life span was 17 years. Today, it is

10 years. And it is completely due to the food we feed our dogs.

 ALL kibble is laced with plastic bits. Sounds yummy, uh?

 I won’t even insult you by telling you how many carcinogens are in dog kibble.

 The best diet for your dog is homemade, where you can monitor the ingredients and

calorie count.

 The second best is a raw diet.

 The worst allergen for dogs is chicken. MOST dog food is made with chicken, and this is the

number one reason why your Vet will switch your dog to expensive RX Dog kibble. If

your dog has loose stool, itchy skin, hot spots, ear infections, and other nuisances, its

most likely his food.

 ONLY give your dog one protein source: salmon, lamb, beef, lamb, or pork.

 Houndful Hearts does not have the time and means to keep our dogs on a raw

or homemade diet. We use one of the top 10 best of the worst dry kibble and

occasionally the wet canned food as well, which is Purina Pro Plan Salmon and Rice for

Sensitive Skin and Stomach, Large Breed Dog Kibble.

 My dogs are VERY fit and VERY active. I feed the adults twice a day. In their bowls, I

place 1 cup of kibble. I add either ½ cup of cooked low-fat hamburger OR 1/3 of a cup

of salmon (which I know is a conflict with what I stated above feeding your dog only one

protein source. My dogs have worked up to two protein sources and can handle this. To

this, I add 1/3 cup of shredded cheese, 1/3 cup of Cottage Cheese, a hard-boiled egg, a

NuVet Joint tablet (see how to order the NuVet via our website) and a large tablespoon

of Pumpkin. NOT pumpkin pie filling, just pumpkin. On occasion, I will add banana, snap

peas, or any vegetable they will eat. I add my probiotic. I add ½ cup of VERY hot water

and stir to make a gravy. My dogs eat it up. I DO give my kids chicken jerky as their

treat. It's VERY hard to find a treat without chicken. I can only do the best I can.

 Let's chat about probiotics. For everyday use, I give my kids one Tablet of DoTERRA

Terrazyme. This is a food enzyme that helps their gut break down food. I switch

between DoTERRA Probiotic and Purina Proplan Fortiflora Probiotic.

 When my kids have loose stool, I step up my game by giving them digstzen, which is like

a natural Pepto Pismo on rocket fuel AND I give them a week’s worth of PROVIABLE.

You can get all DOTERRA products through me and Fortiflora and Proviable through

Chewy or its own website.
